Of course, they do! In fact, reading is one of the requirements for the job.
So today, I’m taking a reader survey, since I’m also a reader and I’m interested in what reading habits you have.
- Do you have a favorite place to read? (Inside, Outside, favorite chair, bed?)
- Do you have a favorite time to read? Morning, afternoon, night?
- Do you like to have music playing in the background? If so, what kind?
- Do you snack while you read? What’s your favorite reading snack?
- Coffee or tea?
- Do you use bookmarks?
- Do you read more than one book at a time?
- What’s your favorite genre? Romance, mystery, contemporary, historical, etc.?
- How do authors irritate you?
- Do you belong to a book club? If so, do you use discussion questions from the book?
- What do you wish authors would do more of?
- Print, ebook or audiobook?
My own favorite place and time for a print book is at bedtime or at the beach. However, I enjoy listening to audio book when I walk or ride in a car. I prefer instrumental music in the background, and I try not to snack, but sometimes grab some chocolate or a handful of pecans.
My favorite genre to read is historical fiction, mainly World War 2. I do use bookmarks for print, for my research books too. And I often have more than one book going at a time. For instance, I’m listening to The Hiding Place on audio, reading On a Coastal Breeze by Suzanne Woods Fisher in print, and also reading a nonfiction book for research called Last Train to Paradise. Of course, I read devotions in the morning with my coffee.
So what about you? Tell me about your reading preferences. If you answer and like bookmarks, I’ll send you one of my new ones!
Fun post, Marilyn! I enjoyed reading your survey answers!
I usually sit in my desk chair to read (in my office room) but when the weather is nice (and not too warm!) I enjoy sitting on my front porch. I read a variety of books (print and Kindle) and always have more than one going at a time. My very favorite genre is contemporary romance, but I love historical too. I don’t have music playing while I read—I’d end up singing along! I’ll admit I drink coffee 24/7 so always have a cup nearby, and I also eat lots of M&Ms. I do use bookmarks (for my print books) and do not belong to a book club (but have been invited to speak at a few!). Thanks for this fun post, and happy reading!
My absolute favorite place to read is sitting on the beach, however, I enjoy reading when I am outside – anywhere. I read mostly during the afternoon. It is a great way to unwind. I don’t snack when I read and I don’t listen to music. I will occasionally sip coffee or tea. I’m o.k. with background sounds, but prefer a place that is relatively quiet. I use bookmarks physically in my print books and electronically on my e-books. I typically am reading a paperback, an e-book and listening to an audio book all at the same time. I’ve been asked if I get confused, but I don’t. I enjoy audiobooks when I’m walking. It’s like listening to a good friend. My favorite genre is historical fiction. When I was an educator I attended summer seminars. I had a professor tell me that historical fiction was not a genre. I found that interesting and tried to explain to him the importance of historical fiction to students and adults.
I’ve never had an author irritate me. I enjoy attending author talks and book signings. I do not belong to a book club. I wish authors would share their writing processes a little more. I like all book formats – print, ebook or audio. Love them all.
Hi Judy, Thanks for your response! It sounds like your reading habits are a lot like mine! I’m glad you share my love of historical fiction. I’d love to know if you’ve read the books I’ve written in that genre and how you liked them.
I read constantly-usually more than one book at a time. I’m pretty eclectic in my genres but do enjoy contemporary more. Don’t snack much but do drink lots of water😳. A couple times through the years I’ve been in book clubs and enjoyed the experience. Now that I’ve retired maybe I can try it again. I do print and online mostly-have done audio while driving long distances.
Don’t like it if there’s too much useless description or when it takes too long to get engaged in the story.
I want my favorite authors to write faster!!
Thanks for your comment, Frankie! So who are your favorite authors?
I usually read every night before going to sleep. I read in bed, no snacks or drinks. No music either. Something instrumental would not bother my reading. I always use a bookmark when reading a real book.
My favorite genre is historical fiction with romance, mystery, or suspense I do read all kinds.
I’ve never been irritated by an author. Sometimes I wish the books were longer It’s always disappointing to finish a book who’s characters you want to read about more
I belong to a book club, but we’re really just a social club. Everyone reads, but we don’t read and discuss.
I read a lot on my Kindle because it’s easier to have multiple books with me when I travel.
Hi Annette! Thanks for reading my books!
